What is ignition?

Ignition is when something starts to burn because it gets hot enough.

Imagine you have a matchstick, that tiny stick you light to start a fire. When you strike the match against the box, it makes a little spark, and then poof! The matchstick lights up and starts to burn. That’s ignition in action!

Think of ignition like starting your car. Your car has a special button or key that turns on the engine. When you press it, a little spark happens inside the engine, and vroom! The car starts moving.
