Hypothermia is when your body gets too cold, and it can't keep working properly.
Imagine you're wearing just a t-shirt and shorts on a really chilly day. Your body works hard to stay warm, like a little heater inside you. But if you're out in the cold for too long, maybe playing in the snow or swimming in a freezing lake, your body's heater starts to slow down.
What Happens When You Get Too Cold
Your body uses energy to keep warm, kind of like how you use batteries to power a toy. If it gets too cold, your body runs out of its "batteries" and can't do things as well, you might start to feel sleepy, shaky, or even confused.
Sometimes, people get so cold that they stop moving altogether, like when you're really tired after playing all day, except this time, it's because their body is too cold to work!
So, hypothermia is just your body getting too cold and not being able to keep going. It’s like when your favorite toy stops working because the batteries are dead, but instead of a toy, it's you!
