Hypertrophy is when your muscles get bigger because they work harder and grow stronger.
Imagine you have a balloon that’s soft and small. Every time you blow air into it, it gets bigger. That’s like what happens to your muscles when you do exercises, they stretch and fill up with more stuff inside them, making them bigger and stronger.
How Muscles Get Bigger
When you lift heavy things or do a lot of exercise, tiny parts inside your muscles called muscle fibers get tired and a little damaged. But instead of being sore forever, your body fixes those tiny injuries by adding more muscle fiber, it’s like giving the balloon extra layers so it can hold even more air.
Over time, if you keep working out, your muscles become bigger and stronger, just like how a balloon gets bigger every time you blow into it. You might not notice it at first, but after weeks or months of training, you’ll see that you can lift heavier things or run faster than before!
