What is Hyperopia (Far-sightedness)?

Hyperopia is when it’s easier to see things that are far away than things that are close up.

Imagine you're looking at a big colorful picture on the wall, you can see every detail clearly. But when you try to read a small book, the words look blurry and tired. That’s like having hyperopia.

How it feels

When someone has hyperopia, their eyes work more like a camera that's set for taking pictures of faraway things. If they try to focus on something close, like a toy or a drawing, the picture gets out of focus, kind of like when you move your phone too close to your face while watching a video.

What causes it

It happens because the shape of the eye is just a little bit different from normal. Think of your eye as a room where light comes in through the window. In hyperopia, the room is just a tiny bit smaller than usual, so the light doesn’t spread out properly when you look at something near.

Sometimes, people can fix it with glasses, which help bend the light better, like giving their eyes an extra hand to focus on close things!
