Hypermedia is like a storybook that lets you jump from one page to another, or even to a different story, just by clicking on a picture or a word.
Imagine you're reading a book about animals, and there's a picture of a lion. If this was a hypermedia book, you could click on the lion and suddenly be in a whole new part of the book where you learn all about how lions live in the wild, maybe even watch a video of a real lion roaring!
Like a Playground with Hidden Doors
Think of hypermedia as like a playground. Each swing or slide is a different page, and some of them have hidden doors that take you to other parts of the playground. You might start on the swings, then go through a door and end up on the sandbox, all in one big, connected adventure.
You don’t have to read everything in order, you can explore wherever you want! That’s what makes hypermedia so fun and exciting.
Examples
- A child clicks on a picture of a cat in a storybook, and it takes them to another page about cats.
- A student follows a colored link from one math problem to another similar one.
