What is hydrosphere?

The hydrosphere is all the water on Earth, from the oceans we swim in to the rain that falls on our heads.

Imagine you have a giant bucket full of water. That’s like the hydrosphere, but much bigger, it covers almost 70% of Earth! It includes everything with water: the seas, lakes, rivers, even ice and water underground.

Like a Water Playground

Think of the hydrosphere as a giant playground for water. The oceans are like the biggest slides, where waves roll in and out. Rivers are like little streams running through the grass, and lakes are like calm pools you can jump into. Even clouds and rain are part of this playground, they’re water that has traveled up to the sky and come back down again.

Water is Everywhere

You might not notice it, but water is all around you. It’s in your drinking glass, in the bath, and even in your body, you're mostly made of water! The hydrosphere is like Earth's water hug, it keeps our planet cool, helps plants grow, and makes sure we have fresh water to drink. The hydrosphere is all the water on Earth, from the oceans we swim in to the rain that falls on our heads.
