What is honeycomb?

Honeycomb is like a super organized house made by bees, all built from wax.

Bees are tiny workers who live in big groups called colonies, and together they make honey to eat during winter. To store this honey, they build the honeycomb, which looks like a bunch of little six-sided shapes, kind of like a beehive's toys for storing food.

Each little six-sided shape is called a cell, and bees make them by chewing wax from their bodies. They work together in teams to build the whole thing, just like how you and your friends might build a blanket fort, but with much more precision!

These cells are perfect for storing honey because they fit together without any gaps, using the least amount of wax possible. It’s like how you can stack blocks neatly instead of just throwing them all in a pile.

Honeycomb is not only used by bees, people use it too! We take the honey out and eat it on toast or put it on pancakes. The wax from the comb can also be used for things like candles or even to make new beeswax crayons!
