What is height?

Height is how tall something is from bottom to top.

Imagine you're standing next to a tree. If you measure from where its roots touch the ground up to the very top of its branches, that’s its height. Just like how you can measure how tall you are by seeing how many blocks it takes to stack up to your head, if you’re 4 blocks high, your height is 4 blocks!

Like a Ladder

Think of a ladder leaning against a wall. The bottom of the ladder touches the ground, and the top reaches up to where it meets the wall. That distance from the ground to the wall is the height of the ladder’s reach. If you climb all the way to the top, you're as tall as the ladder's height!

Measuring with Steps

You can even measure height by counting steps! If it takes 10 giant steps for your friend to walk from the floor up to the ceiling, that means the height of the room is 10 giant steps. Just like you use blocks or steps to see how tall something is, that’s what height really means!
