What is Heat energy?

Heat energy is the power that makes things feel warm or cool.

Imagine you're holding a hot chocolate on a cold day, that's heat energy moving from your cup to your hands, making them happy and toasty. Now think about when you step out of the shower and feel the cold air around you, that’s heat energy leaving your body and going into the air.

Heat energy can travel in different ways:

• When you put a spoon in hot soup, the spoon gets warm because the heat moves through the spoon, this is called conduction.
• When you sit near a fireplace, you feel warm even if you're not touching it, that's radiation, where heat travels as waves.
• When you boil water on the stove, the hot water rises and the cold water sinks, this is convection, like a dance between warm and cool things.

Heat energy is just like a playful friend who moves around and makes everything feel cozy or chilly!
