How It Spreads
Hantavirus lives in the urine and droppings of mice, especially a type called deer mice. When these mice get sick or die, they leave behind lots of tiny germs on the floor, kind of like when you spill your cereal and it makes a mess.
If people touch this mess or breathe in the germs from it, the virus can travel into their lungs. It's like a sneaky invader that takes over your body and makes you feel very tired and sick.
Sometimes, Hantavirus is also spread when people are near rodents, like when they’re cleaning out an attic or a basement full of old stuff, just like the one I mentioned earlier!
So remember: if you see mice or their messes, be careful, it might be time to put on your gloves and mask!
