What is half?

Half means you have one piece out of two equal pieces.

Imagine you have a big, juicy apple. If you slice it right down the middle, you get two parts, each one is half of the whole apple. Just like when you and your friend share a toy, if you both get the same amount, that’s half for each of you!

If you have 4 cookies and split them evenly between you and your brother, you each get 2 cookies, which is half of the total. It's like dividing something into two fair parts, no one gets more than the other.

If there are 10 candies and you take 5, that’s also half. Think about a clock, when it goes from 12 to 6, that’s half of the whole circle.

So whether you're splitting food or counting things, half is just a way of saying "one out of two equal parts."
