What is Greek word “Eurōpa?

Eurōpa is the Greek word for Europe.

Imagine you're playing a game where you and your friends take turns moving around a big map. One day, someone says, "Let's name this place after Europa!" That’s how Europe got its name, from the Greek Eurōpa.

Long ago, there was a beautiful princess named Europa. She was so lovely that a magical creature, let's say a big, friendly cow, decided to take her on an adventure across the sea. That’s how she ended up in a new land, which later became known as Europe.

Even though we don’t have cows taking us on adventures today, we still remember Europa by naming our continent after her. So every time you see Europe on a map or play with a toy world, you're touching a little piece of Eurōpa’s story!
