What is glycogen?

Glycogen is like a storage bag for energy that your body keeps in special places to use later.

Think of it like a snack stash in your backpack. When you're running around playing, and your body needs more fuel, it grabs some from this storage bag. That's glycogen doing its job!

How Glycogen Works

Your body uses sugar (from food) as energy. When you have extra sugar, your body turns it into glycogen, which it stores in your liver and muscles.

  • When you're active, like jumping on a trampoline or riding a bike, your muscles use glycogen to keep going.
  • When you're resting, your liver can send some glycogen to other parts of your body so they don’t run out of energy.

It’s like having a little battery inside your body that charges up when you eat and powers you through playtime!
