Glossophobia is when someone gets super nervous about speaking in front of people.
What It Feels Like
Imagine you're about to give a speech in class, and your heart starts pounding like it's trying to escape your chest. Your hands get all wobbly, and you can't remember what you were going to say, even though you practiced it a lot. That’s glossophobia! It's like having a tiny monster inside you that only comes out when you have to talk in front of others.
How It Happens
Glossophobia is a type of fear, just like being scared of spiders or thunder. Some people feel this fear more than others, it can be so strong that they avoid speaking altogether, even if it's just saying "hello" to the class.
But guess what? With practice and support, that tiny monster inside you might start to shrink, and one day, you’ll feel like a superhero up there on stage!
Examples
- A child freezes when asked to introduce themselves in front of the class.
- An adult avoids meetings because they have to speak up.
- Someone gets a stomachache before giving a speech.
