What is gift?

A gift is something special you get from someone else because they care about you.

Imagine your favorite toy, maybe a teddy bear or a shiny robot. That’s what a gift feels like: it's something you didn’t have before, and now you do, just because someone wanted to make you happy.

What Makes It Special

A gift isn’t always something you can hold in your hand. Sometimes it’s a hug from Mom or a funny joke from Dad. Those are also gifts, because they show love in different ways.

How You Get a Gift

When someone gives you a gift, they might wrap it up in paper and put a bow on top, like how you sometimes wrap your lunch for school. Then you open it, and poof! There's something new to play with or enjoy.

Sometimes people give gifts without wrapping, maybe they just hand you a cookie or say “I love you.” That’s still a gift, even if it doesn’t have a bow.
