What is germ?

A germ is a tiny, invisible creature that can make you feel sick if it gets on you or inside you.

Imagine your favorite toy, it's clean and fun to play with. But sometimes, after being dropped on the floor or touched by many hands, it becomes not so clean. A germ is like something you can’t see that lives on that toy. When you touch it and then touch your mouth or eyes, the germ can travel inside you and make you sneeze, cough, or feel yucky.

How germs work

Germs are so small that millions of them could fit on the tip of a pencil. They’re like little helpers, but not always helpful. Some germs are bad helpers, and they want to make you feel sick so they can spread to more places.

When you wash your hands with soap and water, you're sending those tiny germs away, like cleaning up after a messy playdate!
