What is force?

Force is something that makes things move or stop moving, just like when you push a toy car.

Imagine you have a favorite ball. When you kick it, it starts rolling, that’s because your foot used force on the ball. The harder you kick, the faster it goes! Force is like a gentle nudge or a big shove from something else.

What force looks like

When you’re playing with blocks, and you push one block into another, the first block uses force to move the second one. If you stop pushing, the blocks might stop moving, that’s when force stops working for a while.

You can also feel force when you sit on a chair. Your body pushes down on the chair, and the chair pushes up on you. That's how you stay steady!

Force all around

Even when things are quiet, like when you're sleeping, there’s still force working, maybe your blanket is gently pushing you back to bed! Force is everywhere, doing little jobs that help everything move or stay in place.
