The First French Republic was like a class of kids who decided to take over their school and run it themselves.
Imagine you're in a classroom where the teacher is always telling everyone what to do. One day, some kids get tired of that and say, “We can do this ourselves!” So they kick out the teacher, or maybe just pretend not to listen anymore, and start running the school like it's their own Republic.
A Republic is a type of government where people elect leaders instead of having a king or queen. In the case of the First French Republic, France got rid of its king, Louis XVI, and started being ruled by a group of people who were chosen by the citizens, kind of like how your class might choose a leader for a game.
At first, it was exciting, but then things got complicated, just like when everyone in class wants to be in charge. That’s why the First French Republic didn’t last forever, but it was a big step toward giving people more power in their country!
Examples
- Imagine your school changing from having a principal to being run by all the students together.
- France went from being ruled by one person to being ruled by many people.
