What is First?

First means something happens before anything else.

Imagine you're getting ready for breakfast. You put on your shoes first, and only after that do you go downstairs to eat. That’s what “first” is, it's the beginning of a sequence or list.

Like Putting Things in Order

Think about a line at the park. The person who gets there first gets to play on the swings before anyone else. It’s like counting: 1, 2, 3… the number 1 is always what comes first.

First Can Be Anything

You can have your favorite toy be the first thing you pick up in the morning. Or maybe your first step when learning to ride a bike is wobbling a little, and that’s okay! “First” doesn’t mean it has to be perfect, just that it comes before everything else.

So remember: first means "the beginning" or "what happens first in a list or order." It's like the start of your favorite story, and every great adventure begins with something first!
