What is feudalism?

Feudialism is like a big game of "who helps whom", where people give each other help and protection in exchange for things they need.

Imagine you have a castle, it's like your home, but way bigger. The person who lives there, let’s call them the lord, needs helpers to take care of the land around the castle. So they ask someone else, maybe a knight, to help protect the land and fight off enemies. In return, the knight gets a piece of land or food from the lord.

Now, on that land, there are people called serfs, kind of like farmers who live on the land and work it every day. The serfs give the knight some of their crops or help with chores, and in exchange, the knight protects them from robbers or other knights who might come to take their food.

It’s like a team: the lord gives protection, the knight helps guard the land, and the serfs grow food for everyone. They all depend on each other, it's a big chain of help!

Like a Family Tree

Feudialism is also kind of like a family tree. The lord might be at the top, then knights below them, and serfs even lower down. Everyone has their role, just like in a family: parents take care of kids, kids help out when they can, and everyone shares food and protection, it’s all about fair teamwork!
