What is fertilization?

Fertilization is when two special cells join together to make a new life begin.

Imagine you have a box of building blocks, one box is from your mom, and the other is from your dad. When they meet, they mix their blocks together, creating a brand-new set of blocks that will grow into something amazing, like you!

Each parent has special cells called eggs (from mom) and sperm (from dad). These are like tiny, super-special building block boxes.

When the egg meets the sperm, maybe in a swimming pool or somewhere cozy inside your body, they join together. This joining is called fertilization, and it’s like when two friends combine their toys to make something bigger and cooler!

After fertilization, this new cell starts growing and dividing, just like how you grow from a tiny baby into the awesome kid you are today! It's all part of a fun, everyday kind of life science that happens every time someone is born.
