What is fear?

Fear is when your body gets ready to run or hide because something unexpected happens.

What Fear Feels Like

Imagine you're playing in your favorite room and all of a sudden, a big shadow appears on the wall, maybe it's just your brother jumping out for fun, but your heart starts beating fast, and you feel like you want to run or hide. That’s fear! It’s like when you hear a loud noise at night and think it’s a monster under the bed, even though it might just be the cat knocking over a bowl.

Why We Feel Fear

Your body has a special alarm system inside that helps you know when something is strange or dangerous. When your brain sees something unexpected, like a shadow or a loud noise, it tells this alarm to go off. That’s why you feel your heart race, your legs get ready to move, and sometimes you even jump, it's your body getting ready for action!
