What is extract?

Extract is when you take out just the important parts from something bigger.

Imagine you have a big jar full of mixed candies, there are red ones, blue ones, yellow ones, and some you don’t even like. Extracting is like taking only the red candies out to make a special snack. You leave all the others behind because they aren’t as important right now.

Like Making a Juice

Think about making juice from a fruit. If you have an orange with seeds and peel, extracting means getting just the juicy part, not the seeds or the peel. That’s what makes your juice tasty and easy to drink.

Why We Extract

We do this all the time in real life too! When you squeeze lemon juice from a lemon, you're extracting the juice, leaving behind the pulp and skin. Or when you make tea, you pour hot water over leaves and let the good flavors come out, that’s also extracting!

So next time you see someone taking only part of something, remember: they’re probably doing some kind of extract!
