What is drift?

Drift is when things slowly change over time without anyone pushing them.

Imagine you're on a swings at the park. When you start swinging, you go high and low in a steady pattern, that's your rhythm. But if no one helps you or stops you, after a while, you might swing a little higher each time, or maybe a little lower. That change is like drift.

Why it happens

Sometimes things drift because they're not perfectly balanced. Like when you’re on the swings, if the rope is just right, you’ll keep going at the same height forever. But if the rope gets a tiny bit looser or tighter, that small difference can make your swing go higher or lower over time.

Drift in real life

You might see drift every day. For example, when you're riding a bicycle and don't steer perfectly, you might slowly start going to one side of the road even if you’re not trying to. That’s like drift too!

Drift is just a quiet, slow change that happens over time because things aren’t exactly perfect, and that's okay!
