What is REM sleep?
Imagine you're playing with your toys, and then all of a sudden, you fall asleep. But instead of just sitting still, your brain starts running around like it's in a race! That’s REM sleep, short for Rapid Eye Movement sleep. Your eyes move really fast, even though you’re closed, and your brain is working overtime.
Why do dreams happen?
During this busy time, your brain takes all the things you've seen, heard, and done during the day and mixes them up like a giant puzzle. It’s like when you take out all your blocks and try to build something new, sometimes it looks strange, but that's what makes dreams so interesting!
So, complex neural activity is just a fancy way of saying "your brain is doing lots of cool things", making up stories, mixing memories, and creating the wonderful world of dreams!
Examples
