Dominance is when one thing rules over another because it’s stronger or more important.
Imagine you have two toy cars: a big red monster truck and a tiny blue race car. If the big red monster truck pushes the tiny blue race car out of the way, the big red monster truck has dominance, it gets to decide what happens next.
Like a Boss in a Playground
Think of dominance like being the boss on the playground. If you're the biggest kid, you get to pick the game, and everyone else follows your rules. That’s dominance, having power because you’re bigger or stronger.
When Things Are Equal
Sometimes, two things can be equal and neither has dominance. Like if two kids are both the same height and they want to play tag, no one really rules over the other.
But if one kid is taller and faster, that kid gets to run first and everyone else follows them around like a little group of friends. That’s when dominance starts to show!
Examples
- A dog barks at another dog to show it's stronger.
- The tallest kid in class gets picked first for sports.
- Your friend takes the last slice of pizza without asking.
