What is Diwali?

Diwali is a big celebration where people light up their homes to welcome happiness and good luck.

Imagine your house is like a cozy cave, and you’ve been waiting for a long time for something exciting to happen. Finally, it arrives, and you light up candles all around the cave to show how happy you are! That’s kind of what Diwali feels like. People light candles and lamps, called diyas, in their homes and outside to make everything shine.

The Story Behind the Light

Diwali is also about a story, a tale of victory over darkness. There’s a king who was very kind, but his brother was not. The bad brother took over the kingdom, but the good king came back and won. To celebrate this happy ending, people light up their homes just like they would if they were celebrating a big win in a game.

A Time for Sharing

Diwali is also a time when friends and family come together. People give each other gifts, like sweets or little toys, to show how much they care, kind of like giving your friend an extra cookie after a long day at the park!
