Discrete means something is made up of separate pieces that you can count, just like the steps on a staircase.
Imagine climbing stairs. Each step is a discrete part, you don’t slide between them smoothly, you move from one to the next. You can count them: 1, 2, 3, and so on.
Like Counting Candy
Unlike Smooth Slides
Now imagine sliding down a slide, it feels smooth and continuous. There are no separate pieces to count. That's the opposite of discrete.
So, discrete is like having separate, countable things, just like steps or candy, instead of something smooth that flows together.
