What is desmopressin?

Desmopressin is like a helper that tells your body to keep more water inside you.

Imagine you're playing with a sponge in the bathtub. When you squeeze the sponge, it holds onto more water, that’s kind of what desmopressin does. It helps your kidneys hold onto water instead of letting too much go out when you pee.

Your body usually has its own way of telling the kidneys how much water to keep. But sometimes, like if you're sick or very tired, it needs a little extra help, that’s where desmopressin comes in. It acts like a gentle reminder for your body: “Hey, don’t let all the water go just yet!”

How it works

Think of your kidneys as tiny workers who decide how much water to send out. Desmopressin is like giving them a sign that says, "Hold on to some more water!" So they do just that, and you stay hydrated longer.

If you've ever had a really long time between bathroom breaks when you're sick, desmopressin might be helping you with that!
