What is depth?

Depth is how far something goes under or inside what you see.

Imagine you have a box full of toys. When you look at it from the top, you just see the lid, but when you open it, you find more toys below. That’s like depth: it's about how much is hidden beneath the surface.

Like a Layer Cake

Think of depth like a layer cake. The top layer is what you see first, like the chocolate frosting. But if you take a bite, you taste the vanilla inside, that’s the second layer. And maybe there’s even a third layer of strawberry underneath! Each layer adds more depth to the cake.

Like Looking into a Pond

Or think about looking at a pond on a sunny day. You see the surface, but if you look closely, you can also see fish swimming below the water, that’s depth too!

So whether it's a box of toys, a tasty cake, or a clear pond, depth is all about what’s hidden just out of sight, waiting to be discovered!
