What is Demography All About?

Demography is like counting how many people are playing on the playground and where they all go when recess ends.

Demography is the study of people, specifically how their numbers change over time and why they move around, just like your friends at school might come or go from class to class.

How People Change

Think about your classroom. Sometimes, a new friend joins, that's like a baby being born. Other times, someone moves away, that’s like a person dying or leaving the country. By counting these changes, we can see how big or small a group of people gets over time.

Where People Go

Now imagine your friends decide to go from one playground to another because their favorite swing is broken. That's like migration, where people move from one place to another, maybe from one city to another, or even from one country to another.

By watching how these changes happen, we can learn a lot about the world around us, just like you might notice patterns in who shows up at lunch every day!
