The Depths: Understanding Depth

Depth is simply how far down something goes or how much is hidden below the surface. Imagine standing in a swimming pool. When you are in the shallow end, your feet touch the bottom easily. That is the top layer. But if you walk toward the deep end, the water gets taller until your feet no longer touch the floor. That hidden space below the visible surface is depth.

Everyday Examples

Think about a sandwich. The bread on top is the surface. The turkey, cheese, and lettuce tucked inside are the deeper parts. You cannot see them until you take a bite. Depth is like the secret filling inside.

Now picture a book. The cover is the outside, but the words and stories inside are deep. Reading takes you down into the meaning, just like diving down into the ocean.

Depth is not just physical space. It is also about understanding.

When we ask "What is deeper?", we usually mean "What has more layers?" A puddle is shallow. A lake is deep. A simple answer is surface-level. A detailed explanation is deep. Being deep means having more to explore, just like digging in a sandbox. The deeper you dig, the more treasures you might find.
