What is curved?

What is curved is something that bends or rounds instead of being straight.

Imagine you're holding a piece of string, if you just hold it in your hand, it’s straight, like the edge of a ruler. But if you twist it and make a loop, it becomes curved, like the rim of a bowl or the top of a hill.

Like a Round Ball

Think about a ball, when you roll it across the floor, it moves in a smooth path. That’s because its surface is all curved. If you had a ball made of straight lines, it would look like a cube, and it wouldn’t roll so nicely.

Like a Smiling Face

A smile is also curved, your lips go up on both sides, making a round shape, just like the edge of a plate or the arc of a rainbow. So next time you see something that bends or rounds, remember: that’s what it means to be curved!
