What is cotton?

Cotton is a soft, fluffy material that comes from plants and turns into clothes we wear every day.

Imagine you're playing with a big, white cloud, that's what cotton looks like before it becomes fabric. It starts as tiny seeds inside a pod, which grows on a plant called a cotton plant. When the pod opens up, the seeds are covered in soft, fluffy fibers, those are the cotton fibers.

How Cotton Becomes Clothes

Once people pick the cotton from the plants, they clean it and spin it into threads, just like when you twist yarn to make a bracelet. These threads are then woven together to make fabric, which can be turned into shirts, pants, or even stuffed animals!

Cotton is special because it feels soft against your skin, like the inside of a pillow. It also lets air pass through, so you don’t get too hot when you wear it, perfect for summer days!
