Communication is when we share our thoughts with other people so they can understand what we mean.
Imagine you have a favorite toy, like a teddy bear. When you want to tell your friend about it, you might say, “Look! This is my teddy bear!” That’s communication, you’re using words to let your friend know something important.
Sometimes people use other ways to communicate too. Maybe you draw a picture of your teddy bear and show it to your friend. Or you point at the teddy bear and say, “This one.” Even if you don’t use words, you're still communicating, because your friend gets what you mean.
How It Works
When we talk or write, we send out messages, like sending a letter through the mail. The other person receives that message and then understands it. That’s how communication works, it helps us share ideas, feelings, and stories with others, just like sharing your favorite toy!
Examples
