What is cold?

Cold is when something feels freezing, like when you stick your hand out of the window on a winter day.

Imagine you have a glass of water that’s just right, not too hot, not too cold. Now, if you put it in the fridge, what happens? It gets chilly. That’s because the fridge is cold, it takes away the heat from the water until it becomes ice.

What Makes Something Cold?

Cold is like a sneaky little friend who steals your heat. When something is cold, it means it has less warmth than you do. If you touch something that’s really cold, like an ice cube, your hand feels all tingly and maybe even starts to freeze, just like the water in the fridge.

Why It Matters

When it gets cold outside, your breath turns into little clouds, that’s your warm breath meeting the cold air. And when you eat an ice cream on a hot day, it melts because the warmth from your hand moves into the ice cream, making it go squishy.

So next time you feel cold, remember: it's just something taking away your heat!
