What is Coconut milk?

Coconut milk is like a drink made from shredded coconut that gets squeezed to make it liquid.

Imagine you have a soft, white fruit, a coconut, and inside it are little pieces of white meat, called coconut flesh. If you take that flesh and shred it, then put it in water or sometimes just squeeze it like a sponge, the juice comes out. That juice is coconut milk.

How It Feels

If you’ve ever had a creamy yogurt or a smoothie, coconut milk feels kind of like that, thick and rich, but still liquid. You can drink it on its own or use it to make curries, rice dishes, or even ice cream.

Making Coconut Milk

Sometimes people use a special tool called a grinder to crush the coconut flesh really well, then mix it with water and strain it, like making fruit juice. The result is smooth and full of flavor, just like how you’d make apple juice from apples.

You can even find coconut milk in cans at the store, ready to use whenever you want!
