What is cliff?

Cliff is when something drops suddenly from one level to another, just like when you step off a big curb and feel your feet fall down.

Imagine you're walking on a flat sidewalk, and then all of a sudden, there's a big drop, that’s a cliff. It’s not gradual like going down a ramp; it's quick and direct, like jumping from one floor to another instead of taking the stairs.

Like a Big Step Down

Think about when you're playing with blocks. If you build a tall tower and then knock it over, the blocks all fall straight down, that’s like a cliff. There’s no slow slide; everything drops at once.

Or imagine climbing up to the top of a hill, and then instead of walking down gently, you just jump off, whoosh! That sudden drop is a cliff too.

A Cliff in Nature

In real life, cliffs are big rocks or mountains that fall suddenly next to a valley or ocean. When you look at them, they seem almost like the ground just stopped and dropped down somewhere else.

So whether it's a big step, falling blocks, or a mountain dropping near the sea, all of those are cliffs!
