What is Classic Ponzo Illusion?

The Classic Ponzo Illusion makes two identical lines look different because of how they’re placed on a picture that looks like a road going away.

Imagine you're looking at a straight path, like the ones in a park, and there are two sticks lying across it. One stick is near the beginning of the path, and the other is far down the path. Even though both sticks are exactly the same size, the one farther down looks bigger, just like when you walk away from your friend on the sidewalk, they seem smaller.

In the Classic Ponzo Illusion, instead of a real path, we use two slanting lines that look like a road going off into the distance. The two identical lines are placed across these slanting lines. Because of how the picture is made to look like it’s getting smaller in the distance (just like a real road), the line that seems farther away looks bigger, even though both lines are exactly the same length!

It's like drawing with lines and tricks on paper, making things seem different than they really are, a fun way to play with how our eyes see!
