What is chipping?

Chipping is when something breaks off from another thing because it was hit or knocked.

Imagine you're playing with building blocks. You stack them really high, and then you knock the bottom one out of place. The whole tower wobbles and chips, meaning a few blocks fall off, not all of them, just some. That’s like what happens when chipping occurs in real life.

How Chipping Works

When something gets hit, like a glass or a stone, part of it can break away. It's kind of like how your snack might crumble if you drop it on the floor, not all of it breaks, but some pieces fall off.

Think about a chipped tooth. You eat something hard, and bang! A little piece of your tooth comes off. That’s chipping in action, just on a smaller scale!

Chipping in Real Life

Chips can happen to things like:

  • Glassware (like a mug or window)
  • Tiles
  • Tooth enamel

Every time you drop something, it might chip, just like your tower of blocks!
