What is centrality?

Centrality is about how important someone or something is in a group because of their position.

Imagine you're playing tag at recess. If you're in the middle of the playground, it's easier to catch people running around you, that makes you central in the game. But if you're stuck by the swings, it might take longer for you to get anywhere. That means you're less central.

Like a Playground Map

Think of the playground as a map with paths connecting different spots. The person who is at the center of this map, where most paths meet, can reach other parts of the playground quickly. That's like being central in a group, too. You're the one people go to for help or fun.

Being Central Means More Attention

If you’re the kid everyone wants to play with because you're in the middle of everything, that makes you important, just like being central in a network means you have more connections and influence.

So next time you're playing tag, try to be in the center, it might make you the most popular kid on the playground!
