What is Bribery?

Bribery is when someone gives another person something special to get a favor or make them do what they want.

Imagine you're at a toy store, and there's a really cool toy you want, maybe a robot that can dance. But the robot is behind a big counter, and only the store manager can give it to you. If the manager doesn’t want to give it to you right away, someone might offer them a lollipop or even a juice box to make them happy so they’ll give you the robot. That’s bribery, giving something special to get what you want.

Sometimes adults do this too! A teacher might get a gift from a student's parent to pass them to the next grade, or a police officer might take money to let someone go without getting in trouble. Just like how a lollipop can make a manager happy, something special can make an adult change their mind, and that’s bribery too!
