What is bravery?

Bravery is when you do something scary even though you're a little bit scared.

Imagine you're standing at the top of a slide that goes all the way to the ground, super long, and it curves around like a rollercoaster. You know it’s fun once you get going, but right now, your heart is pounding because you’re afraid of falling or sliding too fast. That’s bravery when you take a deep breath and say, “I’m ready!” and then zoom down the slide.

What makes bravery special?

Bravery isn’t about being fearless, it's about doing what needs to be done even when you're nervous. Sometimes it feels like you’re standing on that slide with your whole class watching you, or maybe you have to try something new at school, like speaking in front of everyone. You might feel like your face is going red and your voice is shaking, but you still go ahead anyway.

Sometimes bravery is big, like when a superhero jumps into a river to save someone. But most of the time, it's small things, like taking that slide, or raising your hand when you're not sure of the answer.
