What is blackbody?

A blackbody is like a perfect little heat machine that glows when it’s hot, and it does this no matter what shape or size it is.

Imagine you have a toy oven, and inside it is a special cookie that can glow. This cookie doesn’t just shine in one color, it shines in every color of the rainbow when it's really hot! That’s like a blackbody. It takes in heat and gives off light in all colors depending on how hot it is.

A blackbody is something that absorbs all the light (or heat) that hits it, just like a black sponge soaks up water. Then, when it gets hot inside, it glows with light of different colors. The hotter it gets, the brighter and bluer it becomes.

Think about a campfire. When the fire starts, it’s red. As it gets hotter, it turns orange, then yellow, like a blackbody showing its glow at different temperatures!

So next time you see something glowing bright from the heat, remember: it might be acting just like a blackbody, shining in all colors of the light rainbow!
