What is beef?

Beef is what happens when cows grow up and become food.

Cows are like big, friendly animals that live on farms. When they get older, farmers take care of them until it's time for them to be turned into beef, which means the meat we eat from their bodies.

Think of a cow as a giant, walking hamburger. Just like you turn a burger patty into food by cooking it, people turn cows into beef by slicing and cooking parts of their body, like the steak you might have for dinner.

Sometimes, farmers let cows grow really big so they can make big steaks or tacos from them. Other times, they use smaller pieces to make ground beef, which is what goes into burgers and spaghetti sauce.

When a cow becomes beef, it's like turning a toy car into a real car, the same animal, but now ready for you to eat!
