The Base 10 system is how we count using numbers from 0 to 9 and group them in tens, just like when you count fingers on both hands!
How It Works Like Blocks
Imagine you have a box of blocks. Each block represents one number. When you have 10 blocks, you put them into a new bag. That bag is like the tens place, it shows how many groups of ten you have.
- If you have 3 bags (which is 3 × 10 = 30) and 4 blocks, your total number is 34.
- The 4 is in the ones place, and the 3 is in the tens place.
What Happens When You Run Out of Blocks?
When you count from 9 to 10, it’s like adding one more block, but now you have a full bag! That’s how we go from 9 to 10, and then keep counting: 11, 12, all the way up.
You use this system every day, when you count toys, cookies, or even steps. It's like having a special rule that helps you count bigger numbers easily.
