What is Baltic Sea?

The Baltic Sea is like a giant, shallow swimming pool that connects several countries in Europe.

Imagine you and your friends have a big bucket of water, and you pour it into a long, wide container, that's kind of what the Baltic Sea is. It’s not as deep as the ocean, so it feels more like a lake than a sea. This big "water container" is shared by many countries, like Sweden, Finland, Germany, Poland, and Russia, just to name a few.

Like a Big Water Playground

The Baltic Sea has coasts, that means places where land meets water, and people live along those coasts, just like you might live near a lake or river. Some parts of the sea are calm and quiet, while others can get a bit wavy, especially when the wind blows.

Sometimes, the sea gets a little sleepy and loses some of its water, that's called drought, but other times it gets full and even adds more water from places like the North Sea. It’s like a big, ever-changing playground for fish, ships, and people who love to swim or sail.
