Like a Fire Alarm That Goes Off Too Often
Imagine your body has a fire alarm. When something bad happens, like a virus or injury, the alarm goes off to tell your body to fight back. But sometimes, the alarm is broken, it goes off even when there’s no fire. This makes your body send out lots of defence soldiers, causing swelling and pain.
What Happens Inside
Your body has special cells that help you fight infections. When they get too active, they release a lot of chemicals that make your blood vessels expand, letting more fluid into the skin, that’s why you get redness and heat. It's like when you spray water on a hot pan, it makes a big splash!
Sometimes this happens all over the body or just in one place, making you feel sore or tired. But with time, your body learns to calm down, it's like turning off a loud alarm after a while.
Examples
- You get red, hot swelling on your legs without any obvious reason, it's your body fighting itself.
- Sometimes you feel like you're having a feverish burst of pain for no real cause.
