What is assimilation?

Assimilation is when something changes to become more like what it’s around.

Imagine you have a red juice box and you put it in a blue fridge. After a while, the juice might start looking a bit bluer, just like the fridge. That’s assimilation, the juice is changing to be more like its new home.

Like a Playground

Think of a playground where all the kids are wearing blue shirts. If you go there and wear a red shirt, after playing with them for a while, maybe you’ll start feeling like joining in and wearing blue too. You’re still you, but you're becoming more like your friends.

A Real Example: Learning New Words

When you learn new words at school, they might sound funny or different at first, like a purple elephant. But after hearing them a lot, they start to feel normal, just like the other words in your brain. That’s assimilation too! Your brain is changing to make new things fit better.

So, assimilation is like when something changes so it fits in with what's around it, just like juice boxes, playgrounds, or even learning new words.
