What is Arithmetic?

Arithmetic is like having a superpower that lets you play with numbers and solve real-life puzzles.

Imagine you have 10 cookies, and you give 3 to your friend. How many do you have left? That’s arithmetic, it helps you figure out the answer, which is 7 cookies! You’re using addition and subtraction, two basic tools in arithmetic.

Counting and Sharing

Arithmetic starts with counting, like counting how many toys you have. Then it moves to sharing, like dividing your candies equally among friends. If you have 12 candies and 4 friends, each one gets 3 candies. That’s division at work.

Growing and Shrinking

Arithmetic also helps things grow or shrink. If you have 2 apples and you get 3 more, you now have 5 apples, that's addition again! Or if you had 8 marbles and lost 2, you're left with 6, that’s subtraction.

Arithmetic is like a friendly helper who makes number problems easy to understand and solve. It's everywhere, in your pocket, on your toys, and even in your lunchbox!
